Frequently Asked Questions

We are a physiotherapy practice in the heart of Amsterdam with a passion for exercise. We take care of your recovery and support you in achieving a sports goal. With an expert, personal and flexible approach, we listen carefully to your needs. From there we start working together. From dry needling and manual therapy to performance testing and health checks - we are here for you.

For 2024, we have signed an agreement with all insurers. This means that you will be reimbursed for sessions if you have taken physical therapy in your health care package.

Physical therapy is often not covered by basic insurance. This means that you need supplementary health insurance to get your treatment reimbursed. Before visiting the practice, check your insurance policy so that you know whether the costs will be covered by your insurance.

You can see a physical therapist for information, advice and treatment if you:
  • have injuries or pain, such as in your arms, legs, shoulders or back;
  • need medical supervision for exercise care because of a (chronic) condition;
  • Need to rehabilitate after surgery or accident or build fitness before surgery.
Physical therapy helps you recover faster and keep moving as much as possible. With most complaints you can go to a general physical therapist. For specific complaints or conditions there are specialized physiotherapists such as a manual therapist and a sports physiotherapist. The physical therapist is trained to make a proper diagnosis. When this specialized physiotherapist has doubts, he or she refers you to a (general) physician.

For 2024, we have signed an agreement with all insurers. This means that you will be reimbursed for sessions if you have taken physical therapy in your health care package.

Several policies are offered by health insurers. The most common policies are the natura and the restitution policy. With a restitution policy you can choose your own physiotherapist (or doctor), without this affecting the reimbursement of care you receive. This also applies even if we do not have a contract with this health insurer. If you visit a non-contracted care provider, you will have to pay part of the bill yourself. A restitution policy is often slightly more expensive than a non-contractual policy.

Physical therapy prevents, remedies and reduces physical complaints and ensures that you can (continue to) move optimally. The AmstelFysio team includes physiotherapists, a manual therapist and a sports physiotherapist.

A referral from your family doctor or specialist is not required in most cases. In special cases, you need permission from your health insurance company for physical therapy. When this is the case, your physio will inform you.

Checklist:
  • Identification and/or health care card for your BSN number
  • Towel
With a running injury:
  • Running shoes
  • Running Clothing
  • Training schedule

For a first appointment or new complaint, we always try to schedule 60 minutes. If it is busy this sometimes doesn't work, the appointment will take 30 minutes. A follow-up appointment takes 30 minutes.

How many treatments you need depends on the severity of your complaint. More treatments are needed for persistent or chronic complaints. Our goal is to help our patients get rid of their complaints within a few treatments.

Yes normally you keep the same therapist, unless the treating therapist estimates that a fellow (sports) physio or manual therapist has more expertise in your particular case. This is always done in consultation with you.

Supplementary insurance reimburses care that the basic health insurance does not cover. Exactly how many treatments you will be reimbursed for can be found in your insurance policy. Check this before you visit the practice.

Physical therapy is partially included in the basic health insurance package. Exactly what you will be reimbursed for depends on your age and the reason why you are receiving physical therapy. You can get additional insurance for physical therapy that is not included in the basic insurance.

If you have to cancel your appointment for any reason, please do so well in advance, but at least 24 hours before the actual appointment. Then we can still fill the time reserved for you with someone on the waiting list, so that this patient can be helped earlier. If you do not cancel 24 hours before the treatment or do not keep the appointment, it will be charged to you.

Please note that this bill is not billable to your health insurance company.
