Frequently Asked Questions
We are a physical therapy practice in the heart of Amsterdam with a passion for movement. We take care of your recovery and support you in achieving your athletic goals. With an expert, personalized, and flexible approach, we listen carefully to your needs. From there, we get to work together. From dry needling to manual therapy—we are here for you.
- have injuries or pain, such as in your arms, legs, shoulders or back;
- need medical supervision for exercise care because of a (chronic) condition;
- Need to rehabilitate after surgery or accident or build fitness before surgery.
We have signed agreements with all insurers for 2026. This means that you will be reimbursed for the sessions if you have included physical therapy in your healthcare package.
Physical therapy is often not covered by basic insurance. This means that you need supplementary health insurance to get your treatment reimbursed. Before visiting the practice, check your insurance policy so that you know whether the costs will be covered by your insurance.
Several policies are offered by health insurers. The most common policies are the natura and the restitution policy. With a restitution policy you can choose your own physiotherapist (or doctor), without this affecting the reimbursement of care you receive. This also applies even if we do not have a contract with this health insurer. If you visit a non-contracted care provider, you will have to pay part of the bill yourself. A restitution policy is often slightly more expensive than a non-contractual policy.
Physical therapy prevents, remedies and reduces physical complaints and ensures that you can (continue to) move optimally. The AmstelFysio team includes physiotherapists, a manual therapist and a sports physiotherapist.
A referral from your family doctor or specialist is not required in most cases. In special cases, you need permission from your health insurance company for physical therapy. When this is the case, your physio will inform you.

For a first appointment or new complaint, we always try to schedule 60 minutes. If it is busy this sometimes doesn't work, the appointment will take 30 minutes. A follow-up appointment takes 30 minutes.
The number of treatments you need depends on the severity of your condition. More treatments are required for persistent or chronic conditions. Our goal is to relieve our patients of their symptoms within a few treatments.
Yes, normally you will keep the same therapist, unless the treating therapist assesses that a colleague (sports) physiotherapist or manual therapist has more expertise in your specific case. This will always be discussed with you.
Supplementary insurance reimburses care that the basic health insurance does not cover. Exactly how many treatments you will be reimbursed for can be found in your insurance policy. Check this before you visit the practice.
Physical therapy is partially covered by basic health insurance. What exactly you will be reimbursed for depends on your age and the reason you are receiving physical therapy. You can take out supplementary insurance for physical therapy that is not covered by basic insurance.
If you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, please do so well in advance, but at least 24 hours before the actual appointment. This will allow us to fill the time reserved for you with someone on the waiting list, so that this patient can also be helped sooner. If you do not cancel 24 hours before the treatment or do not show up for the appointment, you will be charged for it.
Please note: this invoice cannot be claimed from your health insurer.
